Research projects for the Explore BiGG Data REEU offer research training in the analysis of large datasets (“big data”) to understand the intersection of contemporary omics and One Health systems. That is, students will explore how features of population- or community-level genomics, metabolomics, microbiomics, etc. affect animal, plant, human, and/or environmental health. Through the BiGG Data REEU, fellows will utilize bioinformatic tools to explore and process big data, including DNA or protein sequence quality control, processing, and analysis using basic statistical procedures and data visualization software in R. Students will also receive training in communicating research in these complex systems to other scientists and the general public.
